Vitamin D deficiency

It is not always a case of bad news. (Case explaining simple Vitamin D deficiency)

In my practice I have observed, whenever a client comes with tons of complaints, he/she usually expects to hear about piece of bad news.

But it is not the case necessarily.

My client aged 41 years had complaints of

·     Excessive hunger
·     Weight gain
·     Excessive tiredness and fatigue
·     Mood swings
·     Deteriorated Hair and Skin health
·     Disturbed menstrual cycle
·     And more….

She was expecting to hear about Thyroid and/or Diabetes or anything chronic. After a round of questions, I felt it is a case of hormonal imbalance, but I asked her to get the latest blood work done to get clarity. And it was observed as follows.

Blood work:
·     Diabetes 37 mmol/mol (In the normal range)
·     Thyroid TSH 3.02 mu/L (in the normal range)
·     Cholesterol levels 5 mmol/mol (in the normal range)

·     Vitamin D3 level 21 (deficiency)
·     Haemoglobin 113 g/L (deficiency)

Suggested lifestyle changes:

·     Corrected protein, fat, and fibre in the diet
·     Focused on Iron-rich food
·     Exercise regime
·     Sleep correction
·     Vitamin D3 supplements as advised by the doctor

As expected, she started showing positive changes just in a month.

Long story short, “Nutrition deprived body struggles to cope with daily routine as well. When we spot signs on the body, it is best to correct nutrition first to avoid unwarranted trouble and, in most cases, that is sufficient.”

P.S: Life sucks – but not always.
