Salt Therapy

Salt Therapy has its origin in the salt mines & caves of Eastern Europe. Salt Therapy is said to have emerged in the process of mining of salt by workers. During the salt-mining process, micro-sized particles were being disbursed in the air. As a result, the miners were breathing the salt particles and had zero respiratory issues and looked younger due to great skin appearance.

Dr. Feliks Boczkwoski, a great doctor and an equally smart business man studied the effects of this phenomena. This study led him to founding and opening of first health resort facility at Wieliczka Salt-mine in Poland in 1839 which is still in operation.

Slowly and gradually, salt therapy caught the attention of medical practitioners, due to which there aroused a need for convenient access to salt caves for specific research-based studies.

In addition to the above, first Halotherapy device was developed in the year 1985,by Institute of Balneology situated in Odessa, Russia jointly with the salt-cavers from Uzhghorod. Such Halotherapy device helped in replicating the atmosphere of a salt-cave by grinding and crushing salt and circulating the micro-sized particles so derived into the air. Halo Therapy is also believed to have born in the medical environment in former Soviet Union (USSR).

Looking to the efficacy of Salt therapy, further, hundreds of salt-rooms were created across the globe using Himalayan Salt Bricks and rock salt to create a look alike salt-cave and provide easy access to patients. Even today, during the process of creating salt-rooms, Halogenerators are installed in the room for circulation of micro-sized salt particles which are beneficial for respiratory health.

Patient’s comfort comes first in Salt Therapy. That is why, during salt therapy sessions, they are made to sit in comfortable reclining chairs and asked to breathe normally. Halogenerator generates salt particles, which upon inhalation travel through the sinuses and respiratory tract and get deep inside the lungs. Through this process, irritants, moisture, including allergens & toxins from respiratory system & lungs get absorbed. Similar effect is created on skin as the salt particles absorb bacteria and other impurities responsible for many skin conditions.

Each session of salt therapy lasts for 30 minutes to 1 hour. It is recommended that patient take number of sessions according to their health problems.

Salt Therapy has been claimed to:

  • Relieve respiratory ailments
  • Reduce Asthma, Allergies, Sinusitis, Migraine, Bronchitis and Lung issues
  • Alleviate skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis
  • Provides Relaxation, calms mind and emotions, revitalizes and refreshes
  • Balancing hormones and increasing energy levels
  • Leads to better sleep
  • Reduce joint pains and muscle cramps
  • Detoxify Body

Salt therapy is claimed to be free from adverse effects because it doesn’t use any other component than Pharmaceutical Salt. Considering relation of usage of salt and hypertension, with salt therapy, by inhalation salt enters in the respiratory tract, lungs and skin. As salt particles donot enter stomach kidney or heart, the probability of its adverse impact is reduced to considerable extent.

Salt therapy is observed to have improved the clinical state in 85% of mild and moderate asthma cases, 75% of severe asthma cases and 97% of chronic bronchitis and bronchiectasis. Number of common cold cases were reduced to half during cold season.

Considering its rich history and benefits it claims supported by research, it is worth to give it a try !
